Escape From Idaho! Transmissions

Thursday, June 01, 2006 Posted 02:45 PM

Nearly three years ago, we had this crazy idea to build a blog site for our company. Back then, we even gave it a name: "PLAT4M". But, like many other internal projects, this one was constantly getting kicked to the proverbial 'curb'. There are never enough hours in the day, and like many companies our internal projects have always been the first in line to suffer when faced with aggressive client deadlines.

At the same time, it seemed like PLAT4M was almost never going to happen as we had spent way too much time worrying about whether we would be recognized for sharing and collaborating amongst our industry peers if PLAT4M was going to end up being dubbed as an exercise in 2A marketing hype.

Then one day, early on in our Version 5 project, we received an e-mail and a huge wake-up call from an anonymous Yahoo address. The message was:

Dear Mr. Eric Jordan,

Would you mind telling me how one person can do all the work you have listed on your portfolio? All we ever hear about is Eric Jordan this and Eric Jordan that. But, I want to know more about 2Advanced and I want to hear from the people that work there. So please get out of your 'Private Idaho' and cough up a few details, maybe a tutorial or two? You could start by sending me a bunch of your .FLAs along with a free t-shirt.

Your fan & friend,

Mr. Potato Head

[BEGIN WAKEUP CALL] Here it is our seventh year and there is very little actually known about 2A? [END WAKEUP CALL] - In fact, there are actually people out there who still believe we are just one person?

Obviously, we have done a crappy job at communicating and this was exactly the e-mail we needed to get off our butts and do something about it.

It's always been a blast lurking through the various community forums and chatting on Instant Messenger, but there are only so many things that can be said one-to-one.

Plus, there was just so much random content up over at the 2Advanced Studios site that it was becoming confusing to even identify its purpose. Realizing we all need a digital playground to explore, the idea of this blog was born. Basically, PLAT4M has become our collective digital playground for collaboration and ideas, but you can fully expect 2Advanced to continue as the studio's work portfolio.

Ok, so with that behind us, have fun and please register today to post your comments. Also note, that in an effort to avoid potential "spamming", we have simply required everyone to register and each registration is reviewed for legitimacy. So, our apology in advance if your account is delayed for activation - We will definitely try to get everyone as quickly as possible!
