No one has commented on this since 2006…?
One in a series of awe-inspiring creations by the Man, Eric Jordan, ‘Return of the Sakura’ has been the most enduring illustration to grace my deskop ever yet. And after countless pictures and images that came before it, and went.
Not only does this piece speak to its creator’s intent, but it reaches into themes that he might not have even known. Either way, I was content to say nothing, but thought it would be a shame not to tell Eric how amazing I thought this work was.
Eric- when, on your mySpace page, you once mentioned that you feel as though you had been born a century (or so) too early, I know just what you mean. As a fan of AVB, Markus Schulz and company, I am even more impressed to learn that you are also a trance DJ in your spare time…!
Peace and continued success
I can smell the sakura…. can you see me at the picture? I am the one who standing there…. The temple is so beutifull
Michaelangelo: Check out gnomon workshop. They have alot of dvds involving matte paintings that should teach you more than enough to get started. Looks like Dylan coles paintings/dvd’s have been helpful to the artist of these mattes also.
I’ll second that. The DVDs available through Gnomon Workshop (A 2Advanced Partner) are an excellent starting point for anyone interested in Matte painting. As you really explore and learn the technique, you will learn much about taking reference photos and giving them life (which is the fundamental basis of the process). In fact the ‘green’ section of the V.5 site (the Company section) developed largely from the tutorials on the DVDs. Seen above, Return of the Sakura (which is also my favorite) was built entirely from reference shots that we captured just this Spring in Kyoto, Japan.
While the Plat4m Equipment store has been slow coming online, you can expect that we will have a large selection of Gnomon DVDs on sale here at Plat4m. Also, as soon as Eric gets some time, we will be doing our own Digital Matte painting tutorials to draw upon much that he learned since first embarking on this form.
A more direct question for Eric Jordan. On the main page of 2A, it mentions that the paintings were inspired by some of your older work? Did the final product for your paintings change ultimately in the end in a completely different direction than when it first started?
Most of my older illustration work (pre-2Advanced) centered around nature. Later on, my style transformed and focused more on technology and space. The Attractor matte paintings began with a very spacey, technological feel, but as time went on, they took on a more nature-centric focus. This was somewhat subconscious at first, but the moment I started becoming aware of it, I chose to embrace it.
This Return Of The Sakura is also my personal fave from the latest 2A site.. it really calms me everytime I look at it.
This is definitely the masterpiece of this website, love the pink color and the ‘zen’ ambiance of this scene. It’ll stay on my desktop for a while :D
Thanks again for giving me pleasure of graphics.
You cant really teach art… you can to a point, but after that its your own style and everything you do comes from your soul and mind.. what you invision..
I like this peice, its very calming, and i love how the cherry blossoms and the aroma is set around. Very nice
Besides mastery of a powerful program like Photoshop CS2, Matt paintings are taught with different styles all around the internet. Maybe 2A will post a tutorial on how it is done in their tut section. Or online communities like DQS ( http://forum.24-7media.de/ ) are a great resource for these type things.
Back on topic,
These Digital Matte Paintings are amazing…
These pictures are simply amazing. Would you be willing to share the process you learned in order to master the art of Digital Matte Painting? Its something I have always been interested in.
Great work…the paintings, the new website…you all deserve a serious pat on the back.
